BIOGRAPHY
Zhong was born in Hangzhou, a city in eastern China, in 1954. He dropped out of primary school during the Cultural Revolution to work in construction. In 1977, he enrolled at what is now the Zhejiang Radio & TV University and became a reporter in the 1980s.
In 1988, He moved to Hainan, an island off the coast of southern China, where he worked at a beverage company as a sales agent. He however quit to set up his own business. He sold healthcare supplements, mushrooms, prawns, and turtles before setting up a water distribution company

In 1996, Zhong founded a bottled water company in Hangzhou, which later became Nongfu Spring. The company grew to be the most popular bottled water and largest bottled water maker in the country, due to the fact that it stopped removing natural minerals from its water.

Nongfu Spring’s initial public offering in September 2020 massively increased Zhong’s wealth. It expanded his fortune from 18.9 billion dollars to over 50 billion dollars. This made him the richest man in China. The Company had revenue of $4.6 Billion the following year.

With water sourced from Zhejiang Thousand-Island Lake and its signature lucky red labels and tops, Nongfu was one of the first large-scale packaged water bottle companies founded in China.

Nongfu marketed several brands, including Farmer’s Orchard, Scream and Oriental Leaf.
