R&Q Names Hillary Jarvis As New Chief Claims Officer For North America

According to the business, Jarvis will answer to Andrew Pinkes, who is the chief executive officer for legacy insurance globally. Her most recent position prior to joining R&Q was managing director for claims, compliance, and strategy at Markel.

Jarvis had previously served as second vice president and general counsel for Travelers’ biggest claims center.

“I’m happy to welcome Hillary to our Legacy leadership team,” Pinkes remarked. Our goal to produce best-in-class results and transform into a more data driven and scalable Legacy solutions provider includes creating the function of a more effective and specialized claim. R&Q and our clients will benefit greatly from Hillary’s strong technical claims, legal expertise, and wide-ranging experience in directing programs that leverage the potential of data.

This news follows the turbulent recent weeks for R&Q. Currently, there is disagreement among its shareholders on whether Ken Randall should succeed outgoing executive chair and director William Spiegel. Phoenix has taken the lead in the fight against Spiegel, and R&Q confirmed in a statement at the end of last month that Brickell, 777 Partners, 777 Asset Management, and others also support the resolution.

A vote is set to be held on Spiegel’s future on 13 September.

The tumult began in the middle of August when Phoenix Asset Management Partners, which has around 12% of the firm’s share capital, said in an open letter that it wished for Spiegel to be removed with Randall to take his role.

However, other firms holding shares in R&Q have come to Spiegel’s defence.

Thomas Moore, senior investment director for UK and European equities at abrdn, said: “abrdn PLC manages funds owning approximately 6.2% of the outstanding shares of R&Q Insurance Holdings Ltd. We support the current Executive Chairman, William Spiegel, and believe that the strategy outlined is appropriate to realise the full shareholder value inherent in the Legacy and Program Management divisions.”

He added: “We have not seen a valid argument to justify the distraction which would arise from a change in management, and believe the stability of Spiegel’s leadership is especially important after a year of change.”
