The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has ordered the nation’s telecom companies to stop implementing the 10% rate hike for voice and data services that they just began enforcing.

Reuben Muoka, the NCC’s Director of Public Affairs, acknowledged in a statement that the augmentation had previously received NCC approval. The regulator claims that its earlier approval of the 10% rate increase was justified by its responsibilities under the 2003 Nigerian Communications Act and other applicable Regulations and Guidelines.

The statement went on to say that the increase fell within the guidelines of the current price floor and price ceiling that had been established for the sector.
