The MIT Climate and Sustainability Consortium (MCSC), which supports the acceleration and implementation of substantial, practical solutions to address climate change, has announced the joining of Liberty Mutual Insurance.

Liberty Mutual has now joined the Consortium’s efforts to spur transformative climate change across industries and the world, along with its other 17 member corporations.

According to Francis Hyatt, chief sustainability officer at Liberty Mutual, “We believe collaboration is vital to combating climate change. We constantly observe and learn more about climate change as an insurer, and we’re delighted to share this expertise with MCSC and further the Consortium’s crucial, urgent work.

In addition, Liberty Mutual will take part in numerous workstreams that further the main goals of MCSC. This includes moving forward with proposals for sustainability possibilities, training for innovators, regulatory laws, and the creation of business models across industries. It also requires accelerating the introduction of large-scale, workable solutions to address the problem of climate change.

The other workstreams focus on creating connections between academic breakthroughs and commercial viability as well as putting sustainable practices into practice that are action-focused, take social justice, economic equity, and environmental protection into account.

“Liberty Mutual will contribute to the dialogue and solutioning currently underway within the Consortium.”

As two renowned organizations in Massachusetts, Consortium membership is just the latest step in Liberty Mutual’s long-standing relationship with MIT.
