Charles Koch is an American businessman and philanthropist who co-owns and serves as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Koch Industries. Their father, Fred Koch, who founded the company in 1940, left the business to Charles and his younger brother David.

Charles Koch was born in Wichita, Kansas, on November 1, 1935, to Mary and Fred Chase Koch. His father was an industrialist-turned-engineer who founded what would become Koch Industries. The three brothers of Charles are Frederick, David, and William.
He studied engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). In 1957, he received his Bachelor of Science in general engineering, and in 1958, he received his Master of Science in mechanical engineering. In 1960, he completed a second Master’s degree and was awarded an M.S. in chemical engineering.
Koch supports a number of communities and educational societies, political and non-political organizations. He has also been referred to as a benefactor and a shady business villain. He was an active member of the Republican Party, Libertarian organizations, Americans for Prosperity, and various American charities.

After receiving his degree, he joined Arthur D. Little, Inc. However, he returned to Wichita in 1961 to join his father’s business, Rock Island Oil & Refining Company, and this position lasted only a short time.
In the late 1960s, he was a young man determined to expand the family business, which had become a medium-sized oil company. In 1967, he became president of the company and renamed it Koch Industries in honor of his father. Since then, he has also served as chairman of the board and chief executive officer.
