AmTrust Europe Appoints 2 New Board Members

AmTrust Europe Limited, a subsidiary of AmTrust Financial Services, has made two new board appointments as it looks to pursue growth in key lines of business.

Andrew Bulley has been appointed Chair of AEL’s Board and Chair of its Remuneration and Nomination Committee, replacing Robert Stansbury following his retirement.

Bulley, who has extensive regulatory and industry experience, joined AmTrust in 2021 as Chair of AEL’s Risk and Compliance Committee.

He worked as a Partner in Deloitte’s EMEA Centre for Regulatory Strategy before joining AmTrust, where he was in charge of monitoring and providing advice on strategic, regulatory, sectoral, business model, governance, risk and capital management, and conduct-related issues.

Bully previously held the position of Director of Life Insurance Supervision at the Prudential Regulation Authority (PRA) of the Bank of England before joining Deloitte. He oversaw all areas of the UK’s adoption of Solvency II and was responsible for overseeing the sector’s prudential supervision on a daily basis.

Prior to this, Bulley worked for the Financial Services Authority (FSA) for almost 15 years, most recently in the position of Head of Major Insurance Groups.

He oversaw the FSA Department, which was tasked with overseeing and analyzing the business models of the UK’s largest foreign insurance businesses. He participated in all facets of the UK’s transition to “Twin Peaks” financial services regulation and served on the project board in charge of implementing Solvency II/IMAP there.

Following regulatory approval, Peter Goddard will succeed Bulley as Chair of AEL’s Risk and Compliance Committee. He brings more than 30 years of experience to the worldwide insurance and reinsurance sector.

Goddard was Chief Legal and Compliance Officer for Unum UK until joining AmTrust earlier this year as an Independent Non-Executive Director, where he was in charge of integrated Legal, Risk, and Compliance efforts across Europe.

Prior to this, his duties at ProSight Specialty Managing Agency Ltd, an integrated Lloyd’s Vehicle of ProSight US, comprised Senior Independent Non-Executive Director, Chair of the Audit Committee, and Chair of the Risk Committee.

He also served as Managing Director, Europe for Brit Insurance for about ten years. His previous positions included Commercial Director and Group Secretary.
